Requests for page protection

This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, semi-protected, move-protected or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to Wikipedia:High-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Instructions

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

  1. Add a level 4 header at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header.
(for example, for an article use: ===={{la|ARTICLE}}====)
  2. If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, or move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header. If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
  3. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request. If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear. If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic vandalism problems like George W. Bush, and not to articles with half a dozen IP vandalism edits in the last fortnight.
  4. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and save.
  5. Administrators: Please mark reviewed requests using {{RFPP}} so that a bot may recognize and archive those entries.
  • Note that this is not a venue for continuing an argument from elsewhere. If a request contains excessive arguing, is being used for edit-warring or content disputes, contains personal attacks or uncivil comments, or any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page.

Indefinite semi-protection non-stop vandalism coming from various ips. Perhaps a long-time protection could do if I am asking for too much. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 02:23, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Catherine Deneuve (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection - An edit war seems to be on the verge of brewing again with this article, and thus, I think it should be semi-protected (for maybe a month like last time) before it really starts getting out of hand. I've pleaded that proper discussions take place before any full-scale edits are made, but one particular person seems to be ignoring this and also engaging in possible sockpuppetry using various anonymous IPs. I will be filing a sockpuppetry report on this person. In the meantime, though, I ask that semi-protection please be given before this situation gets out of hand again. Thank you. -- Luke4545 (talk) 02:08, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protect Long story short, I caught an IP messing up an article then AfDing it, article was kept, IP user is cheesed off and keeps posting on my user page. It happened on 3 May, I just caught it yesterday and they put it back a few minutes ago. JeremyMcCracken (talk) (contribs) 00:16, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Jill Nicolini (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

temporary semi-protection, She got a mention on the Opie and Anthony radio show, and their fans or "pests" have been dropping unsourced rumors about a possible romance between one of the hosts and Nicolini. They have also left vulgar comments (anal sex, penis talk, etc). It has been happening all day.

Declined – There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time. If there's significantly more disruptive activity in the future, consider relisting. Its still bearable at the moment and can easily be watchlisted.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 21:48, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Steve Poizner (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

One month semi-protection. A probably COI-affected IP editor persists in gilding the lily by adding promotional material to this article. He has reverted my last attempt to make the article neutral. I'm only working on it due to the COIN report that was filed in April. While I could semi-protect the article myself, I think having a different admin do it would help persuade the IP editor that he should follow our policies. EdJohnston (talk) 17:18, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Ed, if the IP account is Ogre900, could we just block the IP and force the user to edit logged in? Or am I missing something? PhilKnight (talk) 17:58, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
This is probably a static IP, so if you want to go ahead and block it it's fine with me. I've just noticed some admins getting scolded for semi-protecting articles they've edited themselves, so I wanted another view than just my own. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 18:02, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

If you simply want to make spelling corrections or add information to a protected page that is not disputed, and you are not involved in any disputes there, consider simply adding {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. See the list of current {{Editprotected}} requests.

If you do want a page that exists unprotected, please try and ask the protecting admin first before making a request here. This is also not the place to dispute a protection.

Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Harry Potter (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

unprotection , Has been semi protected since february. Perhaps time to see if anon vandalism will be kept at an acceptable level if the article is unprotected?.-Lilac Soul (talk contribs count) 19:49, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Reluctantly Declined. I'm all for occasional trial unprotection of highly visible content, but the logs suggest this article will not benefit from it. I'd give it 24 hours before someone is back here requesting semiprotection, please, for the love of God :) Fvasconcellos (t·c) 20:47, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

unprotection , Unprotect request, from current level of semi-protection. However it is likely that if vandalism picks up again, will be back with another semi-protect request.  :(.Lyoko is Cool (talk) 19:00, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Declined. I'm not at all comfortable unprotecting an article with a history of off-wiki calls for mass vandalism, sorry. Feel free to contact Maxim (talk · contribs), the protecting admin, if you think it's really worth it. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 20:47, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
We have discussed this in the chanology talk page and the consensus there is to unprotect for a short probationary period. Z00r (talk) 21:18, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Encyclopedia Dramatica (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

(take 3) ArbCom has just clarified their position, so the edit war should be settled. Semi-protection may still be warranted to prevent vandalism. Z00r (talk) 04:58, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure they have clarified their position - Kiril has said it can be linked, FT2 has said it shouldn't be linked and James_F had sentiment with both. There is anything but consensus amongst the arbs about what to do. This isn't going to be sorted until there's a formal vote from ArbCom whether or not to allow the site to be linked (removing the restriction from the MONGO case) or not (keep the status quo). Ryan Postlethwaite 21:00, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Declined Just like the other request, no. Please stop requesting an unprotect of this insanely contentious article. Horologium (talk) 21:31, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

When making requests here, either:
  • Provide a good reason for a substantial edit to a protected page. These are only done in exceptional circumstances, or when there is very clear consensus for an edit and continued protection. Please link to the talk page where consensus was reached.
  • Demonstrate that there is a clear dispute over a protected page, and that a specific dispute tag would be appropriate to add. Please link to the talk page where the dispute exists.

Note: Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page if you would like an inconsequential change rather than requesting it here, though most of these should simply wait for unprotection.
