User talk:Finetooth

I'm taking a break from copyedits for a while to pursue other Wikipedia interests. On the other hand, I'm willing to do a peer review of almost anything. Finetooth (talk) 05:16, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Very Special COTW, act now!

Greetings WikiProject Oregon peoples. It is once again time for another edition of the COTW. Thank you to those who helped eliminate some red links the last few weeks (the NWFP received little attention). This week, we have the stub High Desert Museum and then in honor of losing airline service again, McNary Field. Once again, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. Aboutmovies (talk) 07:17, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Colton Point State Park

Thanks again for your careful proofreading and contributions - Colton Point State Park made featured article today!

RfA :)

Finetooth, thank you much for supporting me in my RfA. I've made plain my respect for your wok on WP, so the support meant much to me. I am expecting your support with my next FA nom, or I'll block you (kidding!) Kindest, Lazulilasher (talk) 23:38, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Kannada literature in the Western Chalukya Empire

Hi Finetooth. If you are free, can you copy edit this article. It is currently in PR and I dont expect many changes. Thanks,Dineshkannambadi (talk) 23:52, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

No problem. Hope you come back kicking at some point. Please do a PR of this same topic if you have time.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 00:03, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Re Favor

The problem is there is no calibrated Washington map for the Geobox - see User_talk:VerruckteDan#Calibrated_Washington_map_for_Geobox_use_request. I have never calibrated one of these maps, but will try to do so in the next 24 hours. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 19:09, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

I made the calibrated map and added it back to your Sandbox. It looks to me that the dot may be a bit low (2 or so pixels), but I am not sure. Let me know if it looks OK or it needs to be tweaked more. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:54, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
I think the problem was perhaps a WP:BYC issue - my last edit on the map last night was just remeasuring on Google Earth - apparently I got it right the second time doing that (ninth tweak overall). I am glad it is useful and need to let Pfly know it is working as he had asked about it initially. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:02, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Columbia River tributaries

Wow, thanks for all the work on these! I'd been poking at them off and on for a bit, but time is hard to come by for me. You've done in the last several days more than I'd been hoping to do over the rest of the year, and a lot more really. Now I can relax! heh. Pfly (talk) 03:39, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

I got the coordinates from Google Earth and saw where the mouth should be, but I am somehow unable to tweak the map to get the dot up. I will ask for help. I like the picture in the Geobox in your Sandbox very much. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:20, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Idlewild and Soak Zone

Hey Finetooth, thanks for the comments at the review. I think I've addressed each of the issues you've brought up. If you have further comments, feel free to add them. If not, I'm interested in your opinion on where to go with it next. Thanks, GrszX 00:24, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Vithoba

Hi, can you please look at that the article again? The article is at FAC Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Vithoba. An editor has expressed concerns about "1a (prose)". Thanks. --Redtigerxyz (talk) 14:02, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

"I will talk about 1a (prose) later. Ling.Nut (talk—WP:3IAR) 02:35, 16 October 2008 (UTC)" If the reviewer points any prose problems I can't fix, i will approach you again, i hope you are not busy with any project of your own. --Redtigerxyz (talk) 03:52, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
An editor recently changed all "an historic" --> "a historic". Is it right? I always thought it was "an historic". --Redtigerxyz (talk) 12:26, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Can you please look at the Legends section, in particular and the article again. See the FAC for specific comments. Thanks --Redtigerxyz (talk) 17:32, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestion. --Redtigerxyz (talk) 09:53, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Galena has left wiki for indefinite time. Do you anyone who can help? Can you inspect the article for grammar, if I add more sentences. --Redtigerxyz (talk) 10:01, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

(undent) Can you please help handle these: they deal with primarily with sentence formation, finding a hard time with this.

Thanks. --Redtigerxyz (talk) 10:11, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Would you mind if ask any other copyeditor to look at the article again for general copyediting and lack of coherence, discussed in FAC OR would you like copyediting it once again.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 15:15, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Tropical Storm Karina (2008) Peer Review Request

Hi Finetooth. Got another favor to ask, can you do a peer review for Tropical Storm Karina (2008)? Although the Tropical Cyclone Report isn't out, I just would like an idea of anything else I would need to do for the article. Thanks :) Cyclonebiskit (talk) 04:06, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks :D Cyclonebiskit (talk) 19:04, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Lafayette

Since you helped with the c/e, I thought I would alert you that I nominated Marquis de Lafayette for FAC today; after it passed its A-class review. I also removed all of those pesky nbsps after Sandy Georgia started...so, you were correct about those. Lazulilasher (talk) 00:12, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

(South) Renovo

I got a picture of Renovo and added it to the article. Also got this photo of South Renovo, which confirms the other photo is of South Renovo (the twin cities of Clinton County). Not sure it is better than the one already in the article. ;-) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:48, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Glad you like it - I also got a few more pix of Hyner View that I need to upload, as well as some more covered bridges. The slough looks like it will be another FA in time. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:51, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
The new Hyner View State Park images are on Commons now. I got a very nice picture of wane siding here at S. B. Elliott State Park. My addcition to Peer review is harder to break than I thought. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:25, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Taking four days off from doing PRs helped with the burnout, and in the end I just couldn't let some requests be archived without some response (for now at least). Glad you like the new pics, I am debating putting a cropped version of Image:Hyner View Fall panorama.jpg or even Image:Hyner View Fall View East.jpg in the park infobox. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:14, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
I missed your comment on liking the fall panorama until now - thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:32, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks...

again for your comments in Wikipedia talk:Peer review/Islamic Golden Age/archive1.

Which templates would you recommend I place at the top of article (such as de-wikifying it, if there's such a tag)?

If you get a chance, could you leave some comments at Talk:Christmas 1994 nor'easter before I send it to FAC? Thanks, –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 16:20, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Certainly. :-) Comments are always appreciated, especially since the FAC is fairly new. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 02:16, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Howdy WikiProject Oregon humans. Time for another edition of the C to the O to the T to the W. Thanks to those who help out on McNary Field and Bend’s High Desert Museum. For this week, we shall tackle Bridges on US 101 and then with the last few days of decent weather, The Semi-Annual Picture Drive. Plenty of red links on the bridge list, or improve a stub! Streator, Illinois

Thank you Finetooth for your assessment of the Streator, Illinois article. I am beginning some revisions, and will finish others as I find information to add. As I do not live in the town, I don't have access to local resources for a more detailed history. Your suggestions will greatly improve the page. Thanks again for your efforts. They are much appreciated. --Ljmajer (talk) 11:25, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Art Deco

Thanks for your peer review of Art Deco. I have started working on some of the suggestions you made. If you have any more ideas or suggestions, please don't hesitate. Be bold! Make an edit yourself if you think the article will benefit from it. Well, I'm off to get to work on it. Thanks again, Elucidate (light up) 18:54, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Bridge Creeks all over the place

Hi, I saw that you had changed the Bridge Creek (John Day River) title to Bridge Creek (Oregon). The problem with this is that Oregon has many streams named Bridge Creek. Please see the GNIS list here. Adding the parent-stream name is a standard way to differentiate multiple streams with the same name in the same state. If you agree with this logic, could you please revert your change? Finetooth (talk) 01:07, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

I agree with your logic if this were an issue at Wikipedia. However, there are only currently two articles about streams named Bridge Creek. One is Bridge Creek (British Columbia) and the other is the one in question. No doubt there are hundreds(?) of streams with that name all over North America but it doesn't seem that they are notable or at any rate they don't have articles at Wikipedia. Therefore, there's no need to differentiate from any other creek (except the one in BC). WP:NC:LFORM says that "in practice, most rivers needing disambiguation have been identified by the smallest appropriate political entity." For interests of symmetry and ease of the general reader, I would prefer this format, i.e., Bridge Creek (Oregon), but I'm not adamant about it if you have strong feelings on the issue since "a river can be identified uniquely as a tributary of another river." Certainly if other Oregon Bridge Creeks have articles written about them in the future, this would be the way to go, but, as of now I feel the widest possible disambiguator serves the general audience of Wikipedia the best. — AjaxSmack 14:29, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Elect the Best Financed, Least Offensive Person For the Job (aka Oregon COTW)

Hello fellow WikiProject Oregon folks, it’s time for another COTW. But first, just remember that those other guys only want to raise your taxes, but I won’t. A big thank you to those who helped make improvements to Bridges on US 101 and participating in The Semi-Annual Picture Drive. And unlike the other guys, I won’t ship your jobs overseas! This week, we have Mr. Bipartisan Wayne Morse who went from being a Republican to an Independent and finally to a Democrat. Then, let’s see if we can finish up creating articles for members of the Oregon House before their January inauguration. As always, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. I’m Aboutmovies, and I approve this message. Paid for the committee to elect Aboutmovies. Harvest Time @ COTW

Greetings WikiProject Oregon folks, it’s time for another edition of the fabled COTW. Thank you to all who helped make improvements to Wayne Morse and creating some members of the Oregon House. This week, we have by request Upper Klamath Lake which think made the news lately with a salmon plan. Then, in honor of the end of the harvest time, we will go farming with Fort Stevens. There is a beautiful link farm in the article that is ripe for harvesting into citations. It should provide for a bountiful feast, or alternatively you can take your hoe to it and weed some out. As always, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. WARNING: COTW is not approved for children under 3 and may contain choking hazards for small children. DO NOT leave your child unattended with COTW. Aboutmovies (talk) 08:47, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Peer Review Black Mamba

Thank you for the kindness of your peer review on the article Black Mamba. Unfortunately I was approached by this student today and informed they will be exiting the class. I am summoning up the mass exodus of several students involved in the project as Scholastic Attrition. An unfortunate outcome of heavy academic loads at such young ages. I noted that you had invested your time on the peer review and humbly ask you forgiveness; at least for a few students, I over estimated their willingness to commit to the project. --JimmyButler (talk) 16:38, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Gobble gobble

Happy Thanksgiving from a Pennsylvania wild turkey (and Ruhrfisch ><>°°)

Thanks and thanks for the review of Goldeneye - I had reviewed it once before and was not sure what else to say. Sonestown Covered Bridge is at PR now if you have a chance and interest. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:42, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks so much, Dincher has already weighed in and caught some overlinking and dabs, but I wanted to get feedback from at least two editors before going to FAC. Take your time, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:19, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to be unclear - I meant that I am not feeling especially well this evening (under the weather). I really do appreciate the comments and will reply in more detail tomorrow. Thanks again, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 05:20, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
When not feeling well I become very literal - sorry. The joke seems clearer today (and I am feeling somewhat better, though not 100%). The old Market Street Bridge had an open steel grate deck and also "sang" with traffic. They would take sections of the deck out at night and repair the surroundings - it was always surreal to drive across in the dark and see a figure halfway out of the deck surrounded by showers of sparks. Your story made me realize that the wooden bridges I work on may well be (some of) the oldest bridges in their counties. Will have to check that. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:32, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your kind offer - I am feeling mostly better, but am also busy in real life just now. Not sure what else I need help with. I have thought in the near future to try and go to reviewing only PR requests with no repsonse that were planning to go to FAC / FLC as a way of cutting back. I had also thought of making a "Common problems seen in articles at Peer Review" page and just dropping a link to it in the ones I did not review. My goal for today is to get Plunketts Creek Bridge No. 3 far enough along to nominate it for DYK, then finish responding to your PR comments, and reviewing a few articles. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 18:52, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
The AP Bio class articles at PR are sort of like watching a rodent move through a python - the lump is working its way down and slowly getting smaller. At least these are generally better articles than the various Entomology class articles at PR earlier this year. Once the articles through the 22nd are done, it will have been 9 months since the all PRs get a response began. That is seeming more and more like a good stopping point. Thanks for the gatritis review - glad I did not have to look at those images too long. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 19:58, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
I think the PR for the Sonestown covered bridge is finally done - thanks for all of your helpful comments, I plan to take it to FAC on Friday. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 05:05, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Zero Down, Zero Interest at the Oregon COTW

Hello to all the WikiProject Oregon folks, time once again for yet another bone chilling edition of the Collaboration Of The Week. I thank yee who helped make improvements to Fort Stevens and Upper Klamath Lake.
