Subzero literally means "beneath zero." As such, it is usually used for negative numbers, especially with regards to temperature.

Sub-Zero Treatment, also known as cryogenic treatment, utilizes ultra-cold temperatures to modify the micro-structure of metals and other materials. It is part of heat treating operations in manufacturing processes. This process requires temperatures of at least -120°F to begin.
