This table lists countries by total 2005 tax revenues (federal, state, and local) as a percentage of GDP (Gross Domestic Product). The data for EU (European Union) countries and Norway is from EUROSTAT (Statistical Office of the European Communities).¹ The data for Australia, Japan, Mexico and South Korea is from the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development).².

(Caveat: Data from Eurostat and OECD is not directly comparable. The Eurostat figures displayed below show a ratio that is 1 to 2 percentage points higher; in the case of Germany by 4 percentage points.)
