Andean Volcanic Belt |
The Andean Volcanic Belt is a major volcanic belt in coastal Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Argentina, South America. It formed as a result of subduction of the Nazca Plate beneath the South American Plate. The belt contains many active and recently-active volcanoes. Nevado del Ruiz is the northernmost member of the Andean Volcanic Belt.
